SEPS Pharma is a privately held pharmaceutical company engaged in drug delivery and development. The company is established as a spin-off project from the Biomedical Research Institute, Hasselt University, with headquarters in Tongeren, Belgium. SEPS Pharma applies the combination of carefully designed prodrugs with the appropriate delivery forms creating innovative therapies for patients by expanding the medical application field of existing and well-characterised drugs, initially targeted to the following therapeutic areas: infectious diseases (antiviral, antifungal, antibacterial), oncology, migraine, chemotherapy-induced and postoperative nausea vomiting. The edge of the company resides in the fact that SEPS Pharma is developing and possibly relaunch variants of highly selling drugs, including blockbusters, for a second 'patent life protected' period with substantial improvements over the initial parent drug.

SEPS Pharma focuses on its internal programs developing improved delivery forms of generic drugs and drugs of which the patent rights are near expiration, initially targeted to two therapeutic areas: infectious diseases (antiviral, antifungal, antibacterial) and anesthesia. In addition, SEPS Pharma intends to enlarge its pipeline by in-licensing promising compounds.
SEPS Pharma's technology platform is based on its self emulsifying prodrug systems (SEPS), lipophilic prodrug systems (LIPS) and innovative drug delivery systems enhancing the performance of drug candidates and marketed drugs.
SEPS Pharma develops prodrug systems to overcome biopharmaceutical problems such as low solubility, low dissolution rate, low permeability, first-pass metabolism, proteolytic degradation, short half-time in combination with prolonged disease treatment and variations in blood/plasma levels.
Not only are the novel prodrug approaches and innovative drug delivery systems applied in service deals, generating revenues, the plan is to establish partnerships with the pharmaceutical industry taking their candidate products into development. SEPS Pharma also offers a full suite of product development services, encompassing preclinical development, preformulation development, formulation development, dosage form development, analytical development and scaling-up.
