About SEPS Pharma

Yves Gonnissen, Ph.D. (on behalf of Regon BVBA): Chief Executive Officer & Managing Director


Yves is a bio-chemical engineer graduated from the Catholic University of Leuven and holds a Ph.D. in pharmaceutical technology from Ghent University. Yves' Ph.D. work focused on the use of coprocessing via spray drying as a formulation platform to improve the compactability of various drugs. In 2002 he joined Johnson & Johnson PRD (Janssen Pharmaceutica). As a pharmaceutical product developer he was working on the formulation and process development via spray drying of Intelence™, a novel NNRTI HIV drug. In 2004 Yves joined Schering-Plough as a quality disposition controller, while in 2007 he co-founded SEPS Pharma.

Jody Voorspoels, Ph.D.: Chief Scientific Officer


Jody is a pharmacist graduated from Ghent University and holds a Ph.D. in pharmaceutical technology from Ghent University. Jody's Ph.D. work focused on the use of bioadhesive drug delivery systems for both systemic and local applications. In 2000 he joined Tibotec, where he was responsible for early formulation of a number of new HIV compounds. In 2002 he joined Johnson & Johnson PRD (Janssen Pharmaceutica). As principal scientist he was responsible for the development of solid dosage forms. In this function he obtained two Johnson & Johnson awards, The Philip B. Hofmann Research Scientist Award and the Johnson Medal, the most prestigious award within Johnson & Johnson for his work on the formulation and spray drying technology for Intelence™, a novel NNRTI HIV drug. He has a broad experience in the formulation and process development of HIV, CNS, metabolic and oncology drugs. He has developed drug delivery systems from immediate release to controlled release, for water soluble to poorly soluble drugs, liquid to solid dosage forms. Jody was leading an innovation team within drug product development and was a member of the innovation taskforce of Janssen Pharmaceutica.

Lieven Baert, Ph.D., MBA (on behalf of Jalima Pharma BVBA): Vice President Pharmaceutical Research & Development


Lieven is an industrial pharmacist graduated from Ghent University and has a Ph.D. from the same university in the field of pharmaceutical development. He also received an MBA from the Vlerick School in Ghent. After his studies Lieven went to Merck in Canada for a post doc. Having this experience Lieven joined Johnson & Johnson in 1993. During the years Lieven had different positions within Johnson & Johnson. The last position he held was Senior Research Fellow/ Vice President Chem-Pharm Early development and innovation at Tibotec. Lieven is also recognized for his innovation work by having the Philip B. Hofmann Research Scientist Award in 2007 and is one of Flanders District of Creativity Fellows.

Herman de Kock, Ph.D.: Vice President Chemical Research & Development


Herman is an organic chemist graduated from Ghent University and holds a Ph.D. from Antwerp University. In 1999 he joined Tibotec, where he held different positions of increasing responsibility overseeing research to early development activities for a number of new HIV and HCV compounds. In 2007 he became Director combining roles as Chem-Pharm team leader and Early Compound Development team leader. As such Herman has been involved in a number of successful early development programmes. In 2009 he also was awarded the Philip B. Hofmann Research Scientist Award for his contribution to the discovery of TMC435.
