SEPS Pharma is established as a spin-off company from the Biomedical Research Institute, Hasselt University, Belgium. The expertise of the Biomedical Research Institute is essential to evaluate the developed prodrugs and dosage forms with respect to pharmacokinetic and -dynamic studies, the development of analytical and bio-analytical procedures for SEPS Pharma's drug candidates and developed prodrugs and the know-how related to animal studies. The Biomedical Research Institute performed contract research for several Flemish industrial partners, under guidance of Prof. Dr. Piet Stinissen. The lab published over 100 peer reviewed manuscripts, often in top-ranking journals. The Biomedical Research Institute has recently signed an agreement with the Technology Transfer Office of the VIB (Flemish Institute for Biotechnology) to assist in IP and valorisation. In addition, Hasselt University will apply their national and international networks for business development aspects.
SEPS Pharma is collaborating with the Laboratory of Pharmaceutical Technology, Ghent University, Belgium. In the Laboratory of Pharmaceutical Technology fundamental and applied research is carried out in the fields of extrusion/spheronisation, spray drying, bio-adhesion, controlled release based on hot stage extrusion technology, freeze-drying, tabletting and granulation. Some 20 Ph.D. students and 3 postdoctoral fellows work on their research projects, under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Jean Paul Remon and Prof. Dr. Chris Vervaet.
