Ghent University

SEPS Pharma has a collaboration with Ghent University, more in particular with the Laboratory of Pharmaceutical Technology (Prof. Dr. Jean Paul Remon and Prof. Dr. Chris Vervaet) on the development of co-extrusion. Currently extrusion is a commonly used technique in the pharmaceutical industry. It is used for the formulation of poorly soluble drug via hot-melt extrusion, but also for continuous granulation and for the production of pellets (extrusion/spheronisation). SEPS Pharma goes one step further and is developing co-extrusion for the purpose of combination therapy. Melt extrusion can be used for both immediate release (IR) purposes as for the development of controlled release (CR) systems. The goal is to obtain systems with a dual release (IR + CR) in one single system.
